Opening a new jacket

The video above shows me opening a new jacket in the lab. According to our field notes it should contain vertebrae and ribs from the Carmel Church whale we’ve been preparing since March.

Here is the jacket after it was opened.

Six vertebrae and seven ribs are visible in this view (see if you can find them–the vertebrae are round and the ribs are long and curved.) There are at least one more vertebrae and three more ribs that aren’t visible in this view.

We’ll be preparing this jacket over the coming months.
