Carmel Church field trip scheduled

The public field trip that we run to Carmel Church each year has been scheduled for Saturday, April 12 from 8:30 am to 11:30 am. The trip costs $30 for adults and $20 for children (members get a $10 discount). If you are interested in going on the trip, you can send me an email to register or to get more information.

While you get to keep most of the things you find on these trips, we retain scientifically significant specimens for the museum collections. A number of important specimens have been found by field trip participants, including this peccary lower jaw that was found by Scott Whitehurst in 2002 and is now on permanent exhibit at VMNH:

    Do you give family discounts?

We can arrange group discounts (including for families) on an individual basis, depending on the specific circumstances–we certainly don’t want to turn a family away just because there are lots of children! You should email me directly to discuss it.

Another option for families is to get a museum membership. If I remember the amounts correctly, for a family of five, a membership will almost pay for itself in discounts in a single field trip–but then you also get free admission to VMNH (or any partner museum–there are about 200 of them), discounts on VMNH merchandise, including our books, and other benefits. There’s a page on the VMNH website (link on the blog homepage) that details the member perks. Last year my $55 VMNH family membership saved me around $130 in admissions and gift shop discounts in other museums.

So that’s my shameless advertisement for the day (but the membership really is a good deal.)
