Carmel Church Day 12

We’re approaching the end of our excavation, and we’re mostly making plaster jackets now. Besides making the bottom of our first jacket from a few days ago, we also made top jackets for two new ones. Here’s jacket 2010-04 just before being top-jacketed, with some of the bones labeled:

At the end of the day, we also made jacket 2010-05, which contained one of the two large baleen whale dentaries  we’ve found on this trip:

Depending on how things progress tomorrow, we should have to make between 3 and 5 additional jackets (we’re trying to divide some of them to cut down on weight).

While we’ve found a lot of good specimens on this trip, we unfortunately haven’t found any land mammals, in spite of the predictions of some of Christa’s students:
