We spent most of the day doing detail work around the small number of bones we’ve found. This sometimes requires working in awkward positions, which is why Ashley is laying head-down over the excavation pit in the photo above.
We found several new large rocks today, but we also turned up a few strange bones that I haven’t been able to identify:
These bones were on different sides of the pit, so they’re not associated with each other. Neither looks much like a cetacean bone, and they’ ex vaguely reminiscent of wrist bones from land animals. I’m not convinced that’s what they are, but they’re intriguing nevertheless.
We had to wrap up a few hours early today when a thunderstorm hit the quarry, but we plan to continue tomorrow morning.
